The komodo dragons and koalas are no longer on exhibit, and no one really knows why. The penguin exhibit is a joke, it's always extremely overcrowded and barely enjoyable. The ""Australian Outback"" exhibit now only consists of maybe one kangaroo outside, while the interior is nothing more than a giant disappointing fish tank. The Texas Wild area is nothing more than a giant money grabber. The only animals left back there are farm livestock in the ""petting"" zoo"". Don't waste your energy going all the way to the back for the Texas Wild.
This zoo has declined desperately in recent years, and needs some serious revisions! This zoo is simply beautiful. I live in the Dallas area, but a trip to the Fort Worth Zoo is always worth the extra drive.
One of the best city zoo's in the US, but unfortunately, they need to do some major cleaning up. I took my whole family a month ago and was very unsatisfied with the lack of cleanliness throughout the zoo's restrooms and all around walking areas.
I understand the construction in progress at this time, and honestly, that wasn't the problem. The problem was the filth throughout the entire park. It was so bad that we tried to sit and have a pleasant snack at one of the many concession stands and were mobbed by hordes of bees that were all around the trash bins and our picnic tables so we had to leave. Although we've been to both the Ft Worth and Dallas zoos many times, the Ft Worth zoo is the clear winner between the two.
It is a great way to spend the day with the family. We usually go every year on the day after Thanksgiving, but go early since a lot of other people have the same idea. Also, they close early on Sundays, so be aware of that. Cookies are used to collect information about how you interact with our website and they allow us to remember you.
