With the critics of the regime unable to form a coherent movement, members of the diaspora have turned to a range of civic organisations instead. Some, like Meron Estefanos , campaign for the rights of the 5, Eritreans fleeing monthly from the country to be recognised by the international community as refugees.

A movement calling itself Freedom Friday uses the internet and mobile phones to contact members of the public inside Eritrea. They encourage internal dissidents to distribute leaflets and put up posters and slogans.

But the most significant evidence of internal resistance came in January Soldiers with tanks advanced on Asmara and took over the headquarters of the state broadcaster, EriTV. The troops, thought to be up to strong, called for the release of political prisoners and the implementation of the constitution. But the broadcast was soon interrupted as the transmission line to the studio was cut. The dissidents were hunted down by troops loyal to President Afwerki and rounded up. We, the undersigned Eritrean Political Opposition Organizations and other justice seeking Eritreans in the Diaspora and at home, would like to submit this letter of unequivocal protest on your inaugural speech in the opening ceremony of the Unity Park in Addis Ababa pertaining to Eritrea.

Abiy Ahmed has been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for We take, therefore, this opportunity to extend our hearty congratulations. Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed was announced as the winner of the Nobel Peace Prize on Friday, with the committee that decides the awards singling out his efforts to achieve peace with neighboring country Eritrea.

They were held at the Sawa military training camp until , when they were transferred to Mai Serwa prison, where they were briefly granted access to visitors for the first time since their imprisonment. None of the three have been charged or granted a hearing. On behalf of the Eritrean National Council for Democratic Change, I would like to express to Your Excellency and to the brotherly people of Ethiopia, our deepest condolences on the terrible tragedies and loss of lives that has occurred to the great people of Ethiopia.

The suspect, Gen. A fifth victim, the attorney general of Amhara, died of his wounds on Monday. The seizure of the buildings could not happen in a country where the rule of law existed, the letter added. In Ethiopia, political prisoners are free and the security services revamped. Women now comprise half the cabinet, and serve as ceremonial head of state, chief justice, and chair of the electoral commission. Elections are slated for next year. Yet the most the U.

It is with great appreciation and gratitude that I write this letter on behalf of the Eritrean National Council for Democratic Change ENCDC in particular, and the Eritrean people in general, to say thank you for speaking out against the injustices and the tremendous suffering of Eritreans at the hands of the dictatorial regime of Isaias Afewerki. The statement included an accusation of the African Union for failing to meet the aspirations of the African peoples and that it provided appropriate pretexts for external interference.

That is goodhearted and good intentioned, and I thank you. But that requires open, honest, and tangible discussion. In time I will mention a proposal that would have helped get us out of the quagmire, but unfortunately some people subdued it. Still, now that the situation has changed, the stage requires an honest appraisal of the past experiences, hoping we all stop repeating the scandal of compartmentalizing Eritreans by age, by sex, by sect, by political background, or by region.

That requires diligent work and we must understand and resolve it properly if we are to make meaningful strides towards achieving durable peace, stable and productive relations among our people. That kind of thinking is counterproductive and not fit for this era which should be based on humanity and centered around the equality of citizens. Finally, as you know, over the las few decades of PFDJ rule, in addition to the silly rivalry and squabbles between Eritreans and other peoples, particularly Tigrayans, has escalated to new levels.

That crippling zero sum game must end and instead we must work for a future of peace and stability. We owe it to ourselves, our children and our beleaguered people.

So far, wars and instability has damaged the lives of successive generations in our region. Now for those who expected to see a quarrel, and listen to cheap shots, I am sorry for their disappointment. I keep my little energy for meaningful fights and there is nothing I would fight over with Getachew—I am encouraging honest dialogue. So, that is the kind of fight you should expect, not bloody fights as if that produces anything.

Honest discussions have a potential of bigger rewards. Dear Saleh thank you and Eid Mubarek! Can you nterview Getachew Reda. I believe he outsmarted the interviewer due to the fact of his knowledge of what was going on with the Eritrean opposition who were there in Ethiopia when he was one of the big bosses. Also while the interviewer was asking genuine questions, he at the same time was doing a lot of publicity for his party, while answering to her questins and she was not able to crossexamine him there.

I strongly believe you will make an excellent interview. So can we see at awate.
