A good time…. When you're trying to rank on Google, every keyword is different. The average word count…. Technical Committees will hold open meetings on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday evenings 30 November, 1 and 2 December. These are working, collegial meetings. Much of the work of the ASA is accomplished by actions that originate and are taken in these meetings including proposals for special sessions, workshops, and technical initiatives.

All meeting participants are cordially invited to attend these meetings and to participate actively in the discussions. Things to note:. Authors may submit manuscripts before or after the meeting; note, however, that review will not take place until after the meeting.

An itinerary planner and mobile app will be available for the Seattle meeting. A complete meeting program will be available at the meeting. Abstracts will be published on the ASA webpage in November. The bus will leave at a. Snacks and water will be provided on the bus. The bus will return to the hotel with time for participants to plan for their dinners in Seattle. The laboratory is located in Elma, Washington, about 1.

Dress for the weather, Average temperature in the lab building is 12 degrees C, 54 degrees F. Videos and a short lecture will be given onboard the bus as well as highlights of the area. Along the way you will travel through the Puget Sound region that includes cities such as Seattle, Tacoma and Olympia, the state Capitol, as well as numerous small towns and wild countryside.

NWAA Labs is home to two of the largest reverberation rooms in the world for use in measuring absorption, transmission loss, sound power, and insertion loss. One is cubic meters in size, the other is cubic meters. The large room is considered the quietest non-anechoic room in the world with background levels as low as dBA and averaging -8 dBA over a frequency range of 25 Hz to 10 kHz. In this room we have the ability to measure RT times for a full 60 dB of decay covering those frequency ranges.

The other facility is one of the largest interior free-field facilities used to measure directivity and attenuation of speakers and diffusive products in x degree balloons at various resolutions. The room itself is feet long by feet wide by 80 feet high. This is large enough to hold 4 US-sized football fields inside the room. Demonstrations will be held to show typical tests and research as well as tours of facilities of an abandoned nuclear power station in which the lab is built. Register online at by 25 October The Women in Acoustics Committee is hosting a facilitated round-table discussion session from p.

Discussion topics will focus on navigating careers and work-life changes during Covid and transition back to in-person or hybrid work. Each table will have a topic leader to facilitate the informal discussions, and the attendees may choose which topic they would like to discuss.

There will be an opportunity for attendees to switch tables to discuss a new topic at p. While the discussions in this session will focus on women's experiences related to these topics, anyone interested in participating in these discussions is welcome to attend.

Many job applicants are now asked to submit a diversity statement along with other materials, but because these statements are relatively new, many applicants are unsure about the expectations. For early career and established acousticians alike, diversity statements can be excellent tools for self-reflection, allowing you to consider your equity and inclusion practices for all aspects of your work including research, mentorship, outreach, teaching, and service.

The workshop will provide strategies for developing a diversity statement. In addition to the workshop at the Seattle meeting, we will hold a virtual follow-up meeting where participants will learn about assessing diversity statements and will be encouraged to bring a draft of their statement for peer feedback.

Contact Tessa Bent tbent iu. Acoustics research is frequently developed on sponsored research projects that arise from direct interaction with sponsors. The process for these funding mechanisms differs from the process for awards that are written in response to a call for proposals. This panel workshop will discuss business development strategies for acousticians who are seeking funding from organizations, such as government offices or consulting firms, whose processes differs from traditional grant writing.

Topics covered will include the importance of networking, mentoring, diplomacy, and how to write a statement of work. This event is sponsored by the Member Engagement Committee. Acoustics experts can become Wikipedia experts and contribute to the International Year of Sound by taking part in this Wikipedia Workshop.

The purpose of the workshop is to acquaint new and experienced editors to improving acoustics content on Wikipedia. In the first hour, participants will learn the basics of Wikipedia and how to edit followed by hands-on editing with guidance and support from the experts. More experienced editors are invited to stop by in the second hour to help improve Acoustics content areas of need. At the end of the program, all participants will have contributed to improving Wikipedia Acoustics and feel more comfortable editing on their own.

Software tools play an increasingly important role in modern day acoustics research. We will share a few core software best practices and tools that can help make research processes and outcomes more reproducible and at the same time facilitate collaboration. We plan to cover coding best practices with emphasis on tests and documentation, which contribute to code that is more reusable and robust to errors.

We will also cover the use of code and data repositories for collaborative research and show open cloud-based platforms suitable for sharing research outcomes. We will conclude the tutorial by an open discussion on the practicalities of these guidelines and invite all participants to share their perspectives and experiences with the group.

The tutorial will include presentation, demos and hands-on exercises, so please bring your laptop to the tutorial. Please also fill out this short survey to help us get an idea of your programming experience and the specific topics you are interested in learning about. To partially defray the cost of the lecture, a registration fee is charged. Register online at acousticalsociety.

Ultrasound contrast agents UCA have expanded the effectiveness and utility of ultrasound in medicine. Conventional UCA first formulated in the s are defined as microbubbles coated with surface active molecules such as lipids or surfactants to stabilize the gas core against dissolution. Novel formulations of UCA have emerged in the last two decades, including echogenic liposomes, nanobubbles, genetically-encoded gas vesicles, vaporizable nanoemulsions, and polymeric nanocups that stabilize gas pockets on their surface.

Originally intended for improving contrast in diagnostic ultrasound images, these nonlinear oscillators have enabled a broad spectrum of exciting therapeutic applications, such as mechanical destruction of tissue and tumors and drug delivery to the brain. This course will cover the various formulations of UCA, experimental and theoretical approaches for studying their response to acoustic excitation, and the variety of biomedical applications that have benefited from their development.

The objective of this course is to provide scholars with a solid foundation for formulating, characterizing, and utilizing their own UCA. First, we will review the various chemistries and strategies employed for producing UCA. This will be followed by a discussion on the theoretical and experimental methods used to characterize the nonlinear dynamics of UCA.

Last, we will review the array of applications that have leveraged the nonlinear dynamics of UCA, ranging from harmonic nonlinear imaging to transient disruption of the blood-brain barrier. Tyrone Porter, Ph. Hunt Postdoctoral Fellowship and the R. Bruce Lindsay award from the Acoustical Society of America in and , respectively. In , Dr. Porter was elected a Fellow of the ASA.

Porter founded the Nanomedicine and Medical Acoustics Laboratory NanoMedAL at BU with the goal of integrating chemistry, biology, and physics to engineer novel stimuli-responsive particles for medical applications. Since establishing the lab, his group has made numerous contributions to biomedical ultrasound, including the use of vaporizable perfluorocarbon nanoemulsions for enhancing ultrasound-mediated tumor ablation and developing characterizing the nonlinear response of microbubbles coated with thin lipid and polymeric shells.

More recently, the group has begun to leverage the nonlinear response of UCA for ultrasound-mediated drug delivery to the brain. Step into a historic theater downtown to catch up-and-coming music acts, thought-provoking contemporary plays, and touring Broadway productions. Visit a gallery or museum to discover one-of-a-kind art with Pacific Northwest flair. Or attend a festival—everything from celebrations of wine, beer, and cider to music blockbusters and more—for every interest.

We invite you to discover the creative pulse that makes Seattle such a great place to visit. Start by browsing our list of annual festivals and events or search events by specific dates, neighborhoods or interests below.
