The Detroit Diesel Series 92 is a two-stroke cycle, V-block diesel engine, produced with versions ranging from six to 16 cylinders. Among these, the most popular were the 6V92 and 8V92, which were V6 and V8 configurations of the same engine respectively. The series was introduced in as a rebored version of its then-popular sister series, the Series Both the Series 71 and Series 92 engines were popularly used in on-highway vehicle applications… In the s and early s, the Series 92 was used as a major bus engine in North America.

The Series 92 left the market in the summer of and the four stroke Detroit Diesel engine Series 60 was introduced as a replacement. Some believe that Detroit Diesel Series 92 engines were one of the finest engines of its time.

However, due to EPA standards, they are no longer being manufactured. The engines are not very fuel-efficient. Thankfully, due to their popularity between the 70s and 90s, parts are readily available and fairly inexpensive. This makes this RV engine more worthwhile for inevitable repairs. I will say out of all the 6V92t's I have done over the years in Bomag recyclers, this one is different. Base engine is the same except this engine has a throttle delay set-up and the oddest thermostat housing make-up. If I didn't know any better it almost looks like a marine engine build in some ways. I cant tell at this time whether this is even the original engine, although the paint matches the machine in color.

My Detroit 92 series manual don't show either 9A90 or 9B90 used for that year. I had to turn back to the chart to see both used in the 92's. Timing 1. My book shows 74 to 87 years.

Let me know if you want a particular page. It only shows 9a90's in 6v92 in california spec, , , after that they only appear in the 8v Truck Shop and td25c like this.
